Alkalizing Green Smoothie
Every now and then (okay, a lot now and then) I overindulge in life. Generally the thing that gets me back on track is some sort of simple routine or ritual where I have the time to meditate and get focused. Lately, this process has come in the form making (and drinking) a morning green smoothie. I find that the movements that come with my green smoothie are quiet easy ~ but calming, wholesome and grounding. In addition, on the days that I start off with something something green, I am more likely to crave and seek healthy food and activities as the day progresses. I have more energy, better concentration and an elevated mood...and am less likely to reach for that second cup of caffeine. Green smoothies can get old, but this one never seizes to make me smile...and tastes so darn good! The ingredients are all very alkalizing in the body, meaning that they are not acidic ~ encouraging the bod to be more balanced and in a harmonious state so that it can perform at it's highest ability, crowding out anything negative that gets in the way. The cucmber, grapefruit and coconut make this super refreshing and slightly sweet...but not too sweet. The avocado and spinach create a creamy, hearty consistency and a beautiful green glow. The hemp protein powder offers a wonderful source of plant protein which keeps me full, yet energized over the course of a busy morning. So, get chopping, get blending and get alkaline.Ingredients: 1 english cucumber 1 avocado 1 large handful baby spinach 1 grapefruit 1 handful fresh young coconut meat (Inner-Eco makes a great one!) 2 Tablespoons hemp protein powder (Nutiva is my fav!) 1 cup water 8 ice cubes *optional: ground cinnamon
Directions: 1. Wash all produce. If your cucumber is not organic, make sure to peel it...and if it is, don't peel (added nutrients!). 2. Remove skin and seed from avocado and add to blender. Squeeze juice from grapefruit and as much pulp (minus the seeds) into blender. Add remaining ingredients to blender. 3. Blend it up baby. 4. Pour into your favorite cup and sip your way into a healthy and alkaline day! (for an extra alkaline spice, sprinkle with cinnamon!) *Note that this recipe makes two smoothies.
