Coachella's Healthy Side
Already on the cutting edge of music, parties and fashion, Coachella now takes festival nourishment and consumption to the next level…finally partying can be a bit healthier! While most other concert venues sell hot dogs and pizza, Coachella elevates the festival food and beverage experience by offering an extensive variety of lighter fare. Whether you’re vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free or just sober, Coachella has it all! During this last extraordinary Coachella weekend, I was pleasantly surprised to know that I could balance my alcoholic beverages, long hours under the sun, and dehydration from many hours dancing to incredible bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s and Major Lazer, with natural food and beverages. All of these small but significant changes make me ecstatic that this generation is heading in the right direction toward healthy living and positive celebration. Below is a list of my favorite healthy Coachella options...
Organic Concession Stands:
The festival experience used to mean succumbing to the fact that I would be stuffing my face with greasy fast food and beer. Coachella is an entirely different experience! I was overjoyed to be munching on local, organic ingredients and using biodegradable service-ware. You could choose from a variety of salads, sandwiches, delicious gluten-free snacks and one of my favorites, The Green Truck. Not only is The Green Truck 100% certified organic, it also makes eating healthy easy and delicious, with their signature veggie burger, kale bowl, and wild halibut fish tacos. My most memorable Coachella meal of the weekend… the felafel and a kombucha...quite the unexpected, perfect combo!!
Naturally Sweetened Margaritas:
If you don't know already, Tequila is my guilty pleasure. I enjoy sipping Tequila and seltzer water, but I am always on the lookout for the perfect margarita. This one wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, (I prefer a little jalapeno in my margarita) but it was up there, especially due to the fact that it was all-natural and sweetened with agave. For a pre-made festival cocktail, I was definitely impressed…. strong and very refreshing!!
Fresh Young Coconuts:
The rage of the last few years, coconut water was everywhere at Coachella...and for a good reason! Filled with natural electrolytes and potassium, coconut water helped 80,000 Coachella goers hydrate and stay energized for 72 hours of fun. Stepping it up a notch, you could also purchase whole young coconuts with the tops chopped off. This way, you could drink the pure coconut water, plus scoop out and munch on its nutrient rich meat, getting more bang for your buck!!
