Pacify Painful Teething with Frozen Fruit

Frozen fruit may be just what the Doctor ordered when it comes to teething babies. I always knew that my 16 month old, Van, loved fruit.  It was only recently that I realized that fruit is far more than just a sweet, healthy and refreshing treat. When it comes to toddler's teething, frozen fruit may be the most efficient and immediate pain relief remedy out there. Van started teething around 8 months.  We became that couple that bought every teething tool on the market, from frozen teething rings to mesh popsicles... anything to relieve his pain. Then one miraculous day as I was making a smoothie for Van and me with the frozen fruit we keep in the freezer, I noticed that my baby needed immediate oral relief. The signs were clear: his shirt was drenched with droll, he was whining and fussing, and was in absolute mommy biting mode. I picked up the closest edible substance I could reach for and put in his mouth hoping it would distract him from his other teething tool, my flesh. Popping a frozen organic mango chunk into his mouth was the best solution I could have hoped for. At first the cold was a bit shocking, but then his big hazel eyes widened as he chewed and he swallowed this sweet delicious treat. Van immediately stuck out his hand and said "eeehhh", which obviously meant, "I want more".  He was hooked! Since then we have also tried banana and strawberries, but mango seems to be his favorite. Good for eyesight:  Baby's eyesight develops along with the rest of their body, making them less able to focus on small details during the first months of life. During this time, good supply of vitamin A is needed for healthy and quick development of the eye. Ripe mango is a very good choice because it is high in vitamin A.

Easily digestible: Mango is easily digestible, and contain enzymes and biochemicals such as esters, terpenes and aldehydes which promote digestion.

Fights microbial infections: Eating mango promotes epithelial function in the body and thereby significantly protect the body against microbes.  Microbes attack can cause the common colds, rhinitis, sinusitis, etc.

Strengthens immunity: During a significant period of growth any food that enhances the immune function is welcome.  The high carotene and beta-carotene content in mangoes strengthens and help build the immune system.

Enables brain development: Mangos are also important for body and brain development. They are rich in vitamin B-6 which helps improve brain functioning. Apart from vitamin B-6, mangoes contain glutamine acid, which is known to improve memory and concentration.
