Now that July 4th is right around the corner, we celebrate America’s independence with delicious home-made BBQ and cold refreshing beverages. As you start preparing those festive summer menus, remember that instead of gorging on cupcakes and brownies, satiate your sweet tooth with naturally sweet foods. Almost everyone craves sweets, but by swapping processed sugars with sweet veggies, you can lessen your cravings while simultaneously soothing the body and energizing the mind. Also, root veggies are very grounding for the body, so while your flying high on parties and social activities, integrating root veggies into your diet will keep you more balanced an relaxed....A great tip to remember, especially if your the host.  Adding sweet veggies helps to crowd out less healthy foods and control unnecessary caloric cravings.
Get creative....choose your favorite sweet veggie below and add it to a salad, create a slaw, grill it, or bake it. Either way your sweet tooth and waistline will thank you!
Last year's July 4th in Laguna Beach, CA

Sweet veggies: Corn, carrots, onions, beets, winter squash, sweet potatoes and yams.
Semi-Sweet veggies: turnips, parsnips and rutabages
